Question:

I am suffering from female hair loss and tricor, chromium picolinate, and green tea are the only things i am taking. My hair is falling out fast and I'm really upset. I am a hairdresser and am doing all that is possible to stop it. What about Nioxin treatments and hair vitamins by phyto?

Answer:

Tricor is used to lower triglyceride levels which to my knowledge has not been found to be linked to male or female hair loss. In doing some quick research on Chromium Picolinate, it appears to be used to promote weight loss and several have reported hair loss as a result of using it. A few people reported that stopping Chromium Picolinate resulted in a complete reversal, returning all of his/her lost hair.

In my opinon, unless a physician has prescribed Chromium Picolinate, I'd stop using it and see if your hair loss stops, and hair growth continues. If you are trying to lose weight, nothing beats good old fashioned diet and exercise. Weight loss pills typically have some nasty side effects and in my opinion, simply aren't worth the health risks.

In the event that Chromium Picolinate is not causing your hair loss problems, you may also want to consult with a dermatologist who can test you for genetic or non-genetic causes of baldness. Only then can a proper hair loss treatment be recommended.
